Most lab managers are experienced scientists who earned the opportunity of lab leadership through excellence at the bench doing science. Unfortunately, most scientists receive little or no leadership training prior to starting the new role. Leadership contains many different facets, but they revolve around doing the right things for the people and the organization.

This workshop will focus on how lab leaders can impact the operation of the lab through more effective leadership.  Topics to be covered will include:

    • Effective decision-making
    • Change management
    • The benefits of employee engagement
    • Building a culture of safety
    • Creating a positive workplace
  • Creating, Developing and Leading High Functioning Teams – TUESDAY FULL DAY (#T1)

    TUESDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2022
    8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
    TICKET TYPE #T1
    $599

    Presenter: Mark Kennedy

Some teams achieve while others fight internally, overanalyze, communicate ineffectively, and produce mediocre and uninspired results or just plain give up.  How can you set your teams for success?  How much depends upon the purpose of the team?  How much depends on the dynamics inside and outside the team?  How much depends on you?  When is the initial investment in the team dynamics worth the time and energy?  Learn principles and practices of creating more effective high functioning teams.  We’ll do this, in part, by forming actual teams in the workshop to experience the process.

The subject matter will include types of teams, necessary team skill sets, team dynamics, conflict resolution, diverse thinking styles, EQ, technical networks, business engagements, taking creative risks, act vs. analyze, incorporating games and fun, and organizational learning.

The workshop will include presentation, role plays, experiential learning, small group exercises, group discussion, and addressing specific workshop participant issues.

Expected benefits include improving the structure and functioning of your teams, learning to turn conflict into creativity, learning to surface and resolve obstructive issues in the team early, and learning new and useful tools and interactive methods for your team that will increase their enjoyment, creativity, and productivity.  Tools will be provided to help participants transition learnings to their organizations.

  • Styles of Communication TUESDAY HALF DAY AM (#T2)

    TUESDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2022
    8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    TICKET TYPE #T2
    $350

    Presenter: Sean Grace

Everybody has a specific style in which they communicate.  Understanding both your own style and that of others improves your ability to effectively communicate, manage, persuade and influence.  In this illuminating and revelatory workshop, participants decode the four primary styles of communicating and then explore how these modes affect how we tend to perceive others and make decisions. When you become more aware of the various styles of communicating, you improve your emotional intelligence, become better at conflict resolution, negotiating, working with and managing others as well as building more healthy and balanced teams.

  • Personal Brand - Shaping Your Leadership Identity TUESDAY HALF DAY PM (#T3)

    TUESDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2022

    $350
