How Can You Learn Leadership Skills?
Leadership skills can be learned and developed in a number of ways. Here are a few:
- Read (or listen to) what professionals have to say. There are a large number of books on management and leadership. Short on time? Try listening to audiobooks or podcasts.
- Learn on the job and grow from your mistakes. This approach taken by many can be risky to both the performance of your organization and your career.
Leadership Starts With You
Leadership starts with you! This very concept is reflected in the ALMA conference keynote speaker Ben Sands’ premise that to be an effective leader you must first learn to lead yourself. What is leading yourself?
Ben Sands defines leading yourself as holding yourself accountable to a personal set of values, beliefs, and goals. Leading yourself includes having a clear self-awareness, taking action in a manner that is consistent with those beliefs and values and having the courage to sacrifice your own personal well-being in order to act in a way that is true to your beliefs and values.
Ben Sands’ keynote presentation at the ALMA conference in Minneapolis will take us on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth starting with an understanding of what differentiates the world’s most high -impact, high- integrity leaders from all the rest. These lessons will be turned into a clear, actionable, five-step “roadmap” that will help the leaders in the room more effectively lead themselves, lead others, and lead their organizations. Each participant will leave the session with a clear understanding of where they are today on their leadership journey, where they want to go, and what they have to do to make it happen. Be the best leader you can be by learning to first lead yourself. Enhance your leadership journey through Ben’s keynote presentation at the ALMA conference.
Put Personal Development in Your 2019 Budget
Successful leaders aren’t born, they develop through continued enhancement of their skills.
Learning from the experiences of successful leaders who have faced the same issues and challenges is an effective way to develop these skill sets. Forty years ago, the Association of Laboratory Managers (ALMA) was formed to educate lab managers in exactly this way – sharing successes, failures, and challenges in an organized way to improve team and lab management success.
Let our 40 years of experience supporting Lab Managers help you achieve your personal development goals.
ALMA conferences and workshops feature presentations by experienced laboratory leaders on the day to day challenges all lab managers face in leading people, improving productivity, increasing customer satisfaction and positioning the organization for success in the future.
Celebrate our 40th Anniversary with us at ALMA2019@Minneapolis!
